Beautiful destination wedding in Crete, Greece

Back in September 2021 I had the absolute pleasure of capturing Dan & Daisy’s beautiful destination wedding in Crete, Greece.

Dan and Daisy originally booked me for September 2020, however covid sadly meant that their wedding had to be rescheduled at the last minute as Crete went onto the Red list for travel just 2 weeks before their special day.

When the date to photograph their beautiful destination wedding came back around I was so excited for them and to finally be able to fly to Crete to capture their dream wedding that they’d been waiting for.

On the day of the wedding the weather was glorious, blue skies and sunshine, plus warm weather. Daisy & Dan both got ready separately at the hotel they were staying in – Tui Blue Elounda Village then went on to Analipsi Chapel for a beautiful outdoor ceremony with the most stunning coastal backdrop.

After having some reception drinks and photos at the ceremony site, we were walking towards the boat that Dan & Daisy were going on to sail around Elounda, but on the way I came across an enormous puddle that I thought would make a great setting for some photos because I could visualise in my head how it was going to look with the amazing setting they were in with the see and mountains as a backdrop and then their reflection in the water across the puddle. It’s funny though, as Dan & Daisy said that they’d seen the puddle the day before and were hoping that it wouldn’t be there for their wedding day but were amazed and pleased that the huge puddle hadn’t gone when I showed them the back of the camera with the photos I’d just captured there.

As we unexpectedly ended up spending a bit of time taking some photos by the huge puddle, we were running late for the boat, so Dan & Daisy’s lovely wedding planner, Janet from Crete Weddings drove us to the boat where we sailed for about an hour until we moored up at sunset in Plaka, where Dan & Daisy had their wedding reception at a lovely restaurant on the sea front called Thalassa. They had some delicious traditional Greek food, then did their speeches, cut their cake and then danced the night away.

I ended up making this trip to Greece into a family holiday with my husband and daughter as we hadn’t been on holiday for so long because of covid, we thought it would be nice to all go out and stay for a week to have some special; family time abroad. We stayed in a lovely hotel called Elounda Breeze which was absolutely amazing for people with young children as the entertainers were amazing and the kids club was also great. On one of the last days we were in Crete there was an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 that struck the island. It was such a bizarre feeling and experience, we were in our hotel room when it happened and there was a rippling feeling on the floor with the whole room shaking for a few seconds. Luckily everyone locally was fine and strangely some people didn’t even feel it, Ellie (my daughter) slept through it somehow! Sadly one man was killed by falling rubble in Heraklion as well as 36 injured and 5,000 buildings damaged. I never expected to experience an earthquake whilst on a family holiday / out to photograph a destination wedding!
