Beautiful destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy
On Thursday I had the absolute pleasure of photographing the lovely Harriett & Kev’s Destination wedding in Tuscany, Italy. It was my first destination wedding and I’m hoping it will be the first of many as it was amazing to get away and shoot in a totally different environment with beautiful rolling hills and trees and stunning natural light.
I am a huge fan of Italy, and many of you may know that I am getting married in Italy myself in under 2 months, so when Harriett & Kev got in touch about photographing their destination wedding in Tuscany, I jumped at the opportunity! They had originally been looking for local photographers but found that their images were very posed and unnatural, plus it actually worked out more cost effective for them to fly me over and pay for my accommodation and travel expenses as well, than it was to hire a local wedding photographer, which is pretty mental!
I met with Harriett & Kev last year after they booked me and we discussed their plans and vision for the day as well as the logistics of getting me over to the venue etc, and we just ‘clicked’, they’re such a lovely, young couple and we instantly felt comfortable with each other, which is an absolute must when hiring someone to photograph your wedding; particularly with it being abroad!
When I arrived at Tenuta Di Papena where the bride & groom and all the guests were staying, after the taxi journey from Pisa airport, I was greeted by Harriett’s lovey grandparents, Anne and Howard, who looked after me with food and drink etc until Harriett & Kev came back from purchasing their wedding flowers in Sienna. I was introduced to some of the wedding guests that were around at the venue and everyone was really friendly.
When Harriett & Kev got back we chatted for a bit and then Kev took me to the hotel I was staying at and I chilled outside in the gorgeous sunshine until it went down and then I sat and had a meal. I had an early night to make sure I was fresh for the wedding the next day.
On the morning of the wedding, Kev picked me up from my hotel and drove me to Tenuta Di papena where Harriett and everyone was getting ready so that I could take photos of the bridal details like shoes, dress and jewellery etc as well as the getting ready process. There was a bit of a mad rush at the end as Harriett’s mum was busy trying to sort out the styling of the venue while everyone else had left for the ceremony venue and Harriett & Kev’s gorgeous little girl, Ivy kept crying, which made it hard for poor Harriett to finish getting ready. Luckily Harriett only ended up being about 5 minutes late to the venue and then they got wed in the most beautiful setting of San Galgano Abbey.
After the wedding we went around the abbey, making use of the whole site for beautiful couple photos before going back to Tenuta Di Papena for the food and drinks reception. The food was absolutely delicious and the spread that Dolci Tradizioni Toscane SRL put on looked as good as it tasted! After the food and speeches came the evening disco, where Harriett’s dad, Barry Vincent became DJ for the night, calling himself DJ Vinchenzo with an awesome T shirt, complete with light up glasses and a 70’s afro wig.
I had such a great time photographing this beautiful wedding in an incredible location, I really hope to photograph more destination weddings in the future!
Huge congratulations again Mr & Mrs Byrne, I hope you had the most amazing time! 🙂
